Before supermarkets there was markets. Where people came together to trade produce and create community. The came supermarkets and you became a consumer. Milk was put at the back of the supermarket so that you'd buy more stuff and there were bizarre slogans such as "saving you money"
Street markets are a great way to:
- Open up a street and promote your local high street
- Encourage local entreprise including stallholders
- Showcase local entertainment talent (musicians, artists and dancers)
- Create community. This is probably the most important point.
The thing is very few people know how to set up a street market. Once upon a time it would have been common knowledge. So this is the place to relearn how to set one up, what you need to know and with access to coaches who have been there and can support you on your way.
